‘The Mothman Prophecies’ review

“The Mothman Prophecies” — After a fascinating first hour, enhanced by expertly creepy sound design and cinematography, the film runs out of ideas and limps to an overdone conclusion. The script, based on true events, includes some interesting commentary on humans’ place in the universe. “Have you ever tried explaining yourself to a cockroach?” says one character when asked why the Mothman doesn’t just explain himself. Richard Gere, Laura Linney and Will Patton give solid performances. B
