“The Hole Story” – Boston filmmaker Alex Karpovsky created this hilarious documentary-turned-comedy largely in the editing room. He intended to make a pilot for “Provincial Puzzlers,” telling the story of the “black hole” in 2003 on North Long Lake. Because the hole was frozen over when he got to the Brainerd area, the film morphed into Karpovsky’s dryly humorous existential search for meaning. “The Hole Story” is especially fun for us north-woods folk.
