‘Battlefield Earth’ review

“Battlefield Earth” — This adaptation of L. Ron Hubbard’s saga of a human who rebels against his Psychlo captors in the year 3000 has everything except originality and an engaging story. It’s like a “Star Wars” without the momentum, “Planet of the Apes” without the memorable scenes and “Blade Runner” without the mood. Johnny Goodboy Tyler (Barry Pepper) practically stumbles through his hero’s journey, as he’s able to outsmart the Psychlos only because of the aliens’ sheer arrogance. John Travolta and Forrest Whitaker’s campy portrayals of Psychlo villainy is the high point of what is basically a waste of celluloid. C-
