Sitcoms aren’t usually the best genre to binge-watch, as they tend to not have the dramatic stakes or surprises that make you want to jump right into the next episode. Often, sitcoms work well as something to have on in the background. But “The Mindy Project” — of which I binged Seasons 4 and the first part of Season 5 before my free month of Hulu ran out – is an exception.

I suppose I’ll be the first person to say this, but: “The Mindy Project” is better than “New Girl.” It has been since about January, and Tuesday’s season finale was yet another indication that Mindy and the boys have surpassed Jess and the boys in the laugh category.

When “The Office” started to go south a few years ago, I hoped the show would shift its focus to underused secondary characters such as Mindy Kaling’s Kelly Kapoor. That never happened, and I gradually lost interest.
